Stop Pursuing Confidence
When I was younger, I would pursue more confidence in various aspects of my life. I noticed that confidence was often a requirement for excellence. I realize now that I had it backwards.
Confidence results from excellence. Confidence without excellence is arrogance. True confidence builds over time, in conjunction with more experience and expertise.
Now, I focus on courage.
The courage to do something even when I’m not yet confident.
The courage to try something new even when I’m afraid.
The courage to take a risk knowing I might fail.
The courage to trust that I’ll learn more from failure than inaction.
Courage is what cultivates confidence when there is none.
